Silhouette of a woman with curly hair tied back, facing to the right, against a white background, framed with a light green border.
This is the first summer I might actually get a job. A real one. Not just mowing lawns. I applied to be a lifeguard at the new Springs pool. They even said they might train me for free. I already bought my uniform. My mom says I should be careful, but I think she’s just worried I’ll get my hopes up again.

People are always saying this town’s dying. But I don’t want to leave. Not if this place really works. I want to be part of something. Shouldn’t that count?
