My mom says his dad is messing things up. She said if the Springs close, we might have to move again. She’s already mad we had to switch schools last year. I don’t wanna move again.
And Eli’s always saying stuff like, “My dad’s not scared of anyone,” and “He tells the truth no matter what.” Like our parents are liars or something.
I don’t hate him. He’s just… annoying. He acts like the rest of us don’t care about the town. But we do. It’s our town too. We just don’t think everything has to be a big disaster.
I guess I shouldn’t have joined in. But I thought—if we scare him a little, maybe he’ll stop running his mouth.
